BIO
Roger Svedberg is one of the most versatile musicians in Sweden. He has for the last decades been active as an orchestral percussionist, soloist, composer, arranger, drummer, jazzvibist and author.
Since 2020, he is a MarimbaOne Artist.
He was the first percussionist to ever graduate with a Soloist Diploma from the Malmoe College of Music and he made his soloist debut in 1989, playing Jolivet’s Concerto pour orchestre et percussion with the Malmoe Symphony Orchestra. Roger won first prize in the international percussion competition in Luxembourg with the group “RoBoJo” 1992, and since 1999 he holds the position of co-principal percussion of the Royal Opera Orchestra of Stockholm.
His first soloalbum “the great European SongBook“ with saxophone player Joakim Milder and pianist Adam Forkelid was released in 2006 - a unique project that combines the world of opera with the world of jazz.
“Opera meets Jazz - six solopieces for vibes by Roger Svedberg” was published by Norsk Percussion 2009. They also published many of Roger’s solo compositions for vibraphone, such as “Waltz for a little girl” “Busy Boy”.
His second album, “Pit Sounds” , was released in 2011, featuring the créme de la créme of the Swedish jazz scen; Hans Backenroth, Henrik Westerberg and Peter Danemo. The album further explores the connection between Opera and Jazz.
Roger formed the band “A tribute to Milt Jackson” in 2012, playing the music of the legendary vibist. After releasing two CD’s, “A tribute to Milt Jackson VOL I and VOL II”, the band toured extensively throughout Sweden, working with noted jazzprofiles such as: Jesper Thilo, Jan Allan, Klas Toresson and Johan Hörlén.
Roger is also an author. His book I fjärran hörs ett ljud… ( Afar there was a sound…) received critical acclaim and was published by Gidlunds Publishing Company in 2020. The book reflects humorously and with great insight around the mysteries and hardships of life in the orchestra pit. His crime novel trilogy, stories around the Stockholm Opera House, has been well received. The first two parts, Carmensyndromet and Ridåhalaren were published 2020 and 2022 by Mormors Publishing Company and the final part, Bollhuset, will be published in 2025.
